The Next Straw Hat 2010

Learn two languages

Although children are encouraged to learn another language. Bilingualism is an asset for their future. Provided value each language and culture.

Learning a second language is an asset for all of us. Long accused to cause confusion and delays in learning, bilingualism is now seen as an advantage.

There is growing evidence that the child can use both languages without mixing them. Ideally, this education should start before 10 years . What about our little darlings who, from an early age, are required to learn two languages?

Those who think it directly, they are toddlers whose parents from different cultures . From birth, these children hear their parents speak different languages. Ideally, each parent speak to the child in his own language, if they wish, although legitimate, is that it can communicate with all family members, whether grandparents or cousins.

There are also all infants living in a culture different from that which their families originated. This is the situation encountered during the migration . The language spoken at home is so different from that used in schools, streets, shops, ... It is important while learning the new language does not come at the expense of the mother tongue. And that different cultures conveyed through the dialects are both valued. Otherwise, if that language is perceived valueless, the child may experience many difficulties to assimilate.

Finally, include children for whom parents are considering learning a second language, wanton family and without daily practice home. If you're in this situation, it is better to wait until your toddler master their mother tongue. This is the reason why schools who practice immersion welcome children around 4 or 5 years "only". Anyway, regardless of age, new learning is an asset to us all.
